Accident Investigation & Accident Investigator – Exploring The Myth.
Since the early 2000’s the word “Accident” has become redundant for industry professionals as a term of reference. A new school of thought developed long ago focussed around the need to alter these terms of reference to reflect the reality of these events. Words that were used such as “Road Traffic Accident”, “Road Traffic Accident Investigator” and “Accident Investigation” were changed to incorporate the words “Incident” and “Collision, for example, “Road Traffic Collision”, Road Traffic Incident or Road Traffic Collision Investigator” respectively. Whilst you may think that the world has gone mad with political correctness, the problem lay with the word “Accident” and how both industry and public viewed it as a term of reference. The word “Accident” would imply – No Fault, when in reality an “Incident” is always someone’s fault, usually in a “Road Traffic Collision” it might be driver error usually due to lack of concentration or speeding, moreover the liability may lay with the highways due to poor maintenance of a road. In summary, whilst the terms “Accident”, “Accident Investigation” and “Accident Investigator” are still hot topics in search engines such as Google and for Claims Management Companies when advertising to the public for personal injury claims, if you are interested in a career in the Personal Injury and Insurance Claims Investigation and you would like to be taken seriously by your peers and work providers; from this point on you should adopt the terms of reference “Incident” and “Collision”.
Incident, Fraud & Claims Investigation – The Foundation Now that you can see the relevance of using the word “Incident” as opposed the other, let us explain how the basis of our teaching came about. Having carried out many differing types of investigation and subsequently attended many training courses, specialising in individual aspects of investigation our Managing Director, Dean Hyde realised that there was a need for multi tasking skill sets required and not just individual aspects of investigation. Increasingly successful candidates of A.L.M Training were asked to investigate other matters, such as fraud on the Insurance side and dealing with legal documents on the Personal Injury side. Investigators, who had only been trained in one discipline, were being given an opportunity to not only increase their skills knowledge but also their earning potential by opening themselves up to a much wider sphere of work. At A.L.M we decided that the best possible way to develop people who wanted a career as investigators to teach them a wider foundation of skills incorporated within our Certificate in Incident, Fraud & Claims Investigation. Not for the faint hearted and only for those who are serious about reputation in the industry, our Level 4 course is aimed at technical knowledge and proof of understanding in producing thesis, rather than an exam based qualification. We prefer evidence of knowledge retention rather than a candidate’s ability to learn answers parrot fashion for an exam. The course itself includes many aspects of practical and theoretical elements incorporating; investigating incidents, interview techniques in fraud investigation, witness statement taking and legal instruction to name a few. This course gives a solid grounding in industry knowledge and processes and an opportunity for successful candidates to be taken seriously in an industry which relies totally on quality, reliability and consistency. Level 4 as opposed to Level 3
We used to provide training at Level 3 and may do so again in the future for people wanting to get into the industry at a very basic level undertaking legal paperwork collection. Course content, knowledge and understanding at Level 3 is primarily aimed at a supervisory role which is inadequate for the vast majority of work carried out by Incident, Fraud & Claims Investigators today. Our course is pitched at Level 4 which is aimed at a managerial level where independent decision making is extremely important and more appropriate for today’s market.
Where We Lead Others Follow With success along comes competition and we always believe that competition is healthy as it makes you even more determined to be on top of your game and at the forefront of industry requirements. We believe that it is totally unprofessional to name particular companies or demean others attempts to carve a niche in this industry, what we would like to do is present to you the facts;
*Subject to candidates terms and conditions. We are the innovators and we will continue to strive to be first at everything, where we lead others follow… |
